Custom Aliases
& Expiration

Set custom aliases for branded URLs, add link expiration dates, and use auto-fetched titles and favicons.

Custom Aliases

Instead of a random code like lnkk.it/x7kP9m, set a custom alias to create memorable, branded URLs like lnkk.it/my-brand. Custom aliases are available when creating or editing any link.

Alias Rules

4 rules for custom aliases

Lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens only

my-brand, sale2024, promo

Must be unique within the same domain scope

Two links can't share the same alias on lnkk.it

Custom domain aliases are scoped per domain

go.brand.com/sale and lnkk.it/sale can coexist

Original short code still works

Both lnkk.it/abc123 and lnkk.it/my-alias redirect

Note: If an alias is already taken, you'll see an error message. Try a variation or a more unique alias.

How to Set an Alias

1

Create or edit a link

Open the create modal (click "Shorten a Link") or edit an existing link from the dropdown menu.

2

Enter your alias

Type your desired alias in the "Custom Alias" field. Keep it short, memorable, and relevant.

3

Save

Click Create or Save. If the alias is available, your link now works at lnkk.it/your-alias (or yourdomain.com/your-alias if using a custom domain).

Link Expiration

Set an expiration date and time on any link. After the expiration, the short URL stops redirecting. This is perfect for time-limited campaigns, promotions, limited offers, or temporary access links.

Set the expiration in the "Expires At" datetime picker when creating or editing a link. You can also remove expiration by clearing the field.

Expiration States

3 visual states in your link list

No Expiration

Link lives forever — no countdown shown. This is the default.

Expiring Soon

Less than 24 hours remaining — shown with an amber countdown timer (e.g. "5h 30m left").

Expired

Past the expiration date — marked with a red "Expired" badge and sorted to the bottom of your list.

Smart Auto-Features

3 things that happen automatically

Auto Title

When you create a link without a title, Lnkk.it fetches the page's <title> tag and uses it as the link title. This makes your link library easier to browse.

Auto Favicon

The destination site's favicon is automatically fetched and displayed as the link icon. This gives visual context in your link list.

URL Normalization

URLs are automatically cleaned up — https:// is added if missing, and whitespace is trimmed. You can paste raw URLs without worrying about formatting.

Link Limits

Logged-in usersUp to 100 short links
Anonymous users3 links per day (rate limited by IP)
Short code length6-character random alphanumeric code (auto-generated)

Tips

Keep aliases short and descriptive — "summer-sale" is better than "summer-sale-2024-promo-v2"

Use hyphens to separate words for readability — lnkk.it/my-event reads better than lnkk.it/myevent

Don't set expiration on links used for QR codes on permanent print materials

Use expiring links for contest entries, limited-time downloads, or event RSVPs

The original random short code always works even after adding an alias — nothing breaks

Auto-fetched titles and favicons save time — only override them when you need a custom label
